Schiedam 1684

The Schiedam was a Dutch Fluyt that started life as an East Indiaman. It was captured by Corsairs (pirates or privateers), only to be captured by the British navy two weeks later. It was then used as a transport ship (6th rate naval vessel), bringing back captured arms and stonework from Tangiers. It lost it’s way and ran aground at Jangye Ryn, Gunwalloe, on the west side of the Lizard.

Over the years it has been salvaged, with hundreds of artefacts being recovered over the years. In recent years, according to reports, it has been covered by sand.

This is one of our project sites. Protected by law as an Historic site, we have a license to visit and survey the area.
